Color Sorting Activities!
If you are like me you love simple DIY inexpensive toddler activities. I really try to limit T.V. time and these type of activities seem to help keep my toddler occupied and entertained. Here are two very easy toddler activities using colored buttons. Both color sorting activities that also enhance fine motor skills.
Color Sorting Activity Supplies:
- Paper towel rolls (cut in half)
- Colored Buttons (inexpensive via Amazon)
- Colored toddler bowls (inexpensive via Amazon)
- Empty egg carton
- Tape
So for the color sorting activity using the bowls, take your cut paper towel rolls and tap them to an area on a wall or door. Any spot really that you want your child to sit and play. I did this activity, once in the kitchen, with rolls taped to the cabinets. Hey, it’s not always possible to concentrate on cooking with a child that wants to be right there with you! Place the bowls under the rolls. Try not to make them too high from the bowls or the buttons will bounce right out of the bowl.
The activity using the egg carton is very basic. This just is having them sort the colors into separate egg slots. They can group them all in one slot or disburse it throughout.
That’s all there is to it! Hope your toddler enjoys these color sorting activities! If you like this toddler activity you may like my posts on rainbow rice sensory bin or fine motor skill activity.

Thank you!
What a fun idea! I love how creative and easy this looks.
Yes! Very easy~
This looks like a fun activity! I’ll have to wait until my daughter gets a little older and won’t eat the buttons to do this with her!
Yes, they do eventually get out of the stage of putting everything and anything in their mouth! Enjoy 🙂
This is super clever. I love how you used paper towel rolls.
Thank you. Paper towels are much more germ free than toilet paper rolls! 🙂
Definitely fun and would keep the little ones engaged!
Thank you!
So cute and creative! Love these ideas and the fact that they’re educational and fun!
